  Schedule for follow-up testing of children with Elevated Blood Lead Levels (BLL)

If the result of the screening test (finger-stick* or venous) is: Perform all follow-up with venous test within:
10-19 µg/dL 3 months
20-44 µg/dL 1 month – 1 week * *
45-59 µg/dL 48 hours
60-69 µg/dL 24 hours
≥70 µg/dL Immediately as an emergency lab test

ALL Blood Lead Levels pertaining to lead cases, including low levels need to be reported to your local Health Department Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program by mail, fax, or phone.

(*Only-screening tests may be finger-stick; all BLL’s of 10 µg/dL or higher must be followed with venous testing).

(**The higher the screening BLL, the more urgent the need for a follow-up test.)
